Phil Watlington Recognized as 2024 Saint Marian of the Year

To be a Saint Marian means to be of service – one striving to follow in the footsteps of Saint Vincent de Paul, observing the needs of others, and figuring out a way to meet them. Saint Marians give of themselves without looking for praise or admiration.

During SpireFest on April 20, the University of Saint Mary was proud to honor Phil Watlington as the 2024 Saint Marian of the Year. Watlington serves as the Spires Trading Team coach in addition to his faculty responsibilities as the accounting program director and assistant professor of accounting.

The Spires Trading Team is a program for USM students to trade securities and learn about securities markets under the direction of local experts. The program has seen about 25 percent annual returns since launching in 2021, funding full tuition plus room and board for team members.
