Sr. Mary Vincentia Maronick, C’45
We mourn the loss of Sr. Mary Vincentia Maronick, 91, who died on Dec. 22, 2015 at the Mother House in Leavenworth. She faithfully served the SCL community and the People of God for 70 years.
Sr. Mary Vincentia entered the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on Aug. 14, 1945—becoming affectionately known as “Sr. Mary V.” She received a B.S. in Music Education from Saint Mary College in 1945 and an M.S. in Mathematics from University of Notre Dame. Sr. Mary V. taught math at Bishop Hogan High School (Kansas City, Mo.) and Bishop Ward High School (Kansas City, Kan.), and in 1955, she was named Dean of Freshman Students at Saint Mary College. In 1965, Sr. Mary V. was asked to start a development program as the Alumni Director for the college. She served as director for 15 years and after a much-deserved sabbatical, Sr. Mary V. returned to Saint Mary serving an additional 15 years as Director of Major and Planned Gifts.
During the early 90s, Sr. Mary V. volunteered with the AIDS Project of Douglas County, Kan. After resigning from Saint Mary in 1996, she moved to Billings, Mont.—becoming an active member of AIDSpirit Montana, a newly-founded volunteer group to support those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS. Sr. Mary V. lived in Billings for 16 years—enjoying the close proximity of her brothers and their families in Great Falls and satisfying her passion for serving those in the AIDS and GLBT ministry.
Along with her love for fundraising and volunteerism, Sr. Mary V. loved music. She played the bass with a group of SCL musicians, the Remnants. The group appeared on national television with Lucille Ball, performed with Bob Hope, along with touring in Colorado, New Mexico, California, Nebraska, Montana, Kansas, and Missouri.
Sr. Mary V. retired in 2012 to the Mother House in Leavenworth.
