Anna Mae Genitz Baker, A’48, Gladstone, Mo., died on Dec. 23, 2021.

Dorothy Wright Culp, C’48, Kansas City, Mo., died on Oct. 26, 2021.

Mary Elizabeth Lammerding Wempe, C’48, Emporia, Kan., died on June 24, 2022. She was the sister of Mary Josepha Johnston, C’48*.

Sister Margaret Mary “Peg” Driscol, C’51, Leavenworth, Kan., died on Nov. 23, 2021. Sister Margaret Mary was a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth for 74 years.

Barbara Rooney Kelley, C’51, Olympia, Wash., died on Oct. 8, 2021.

Lila Lutz Mullican, C’53, Evansville, Ind., died on March 28, 2022.

Sister Irene Hanley, C’54, Leavenworth, Kan., died on Nov. 14, 2021. She was a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth for 71 years.

Rita Depner Leader, C’58, Billings, Mont., died on Apr. 24, 2019.

Dorothy Zalar Gillan, C’58, Hacienda Heights, Calif., died on Nov. 12, 2021. Dorothy was the sister of Betty Jean Zalar Herrick, C’60, Denver, Colo.

Sister Eileen Sheehy, C’62, Leavenworth, Kan., died on July 29, 2022.

Suzanne Lenahan, C’64, Lenexa, Kan., died on April 9, 2022. She is survived by her sisters, Sister Mary Pat Lenahan, C’70, Leavenworth, Kan.; Therese Lenahan, C’73, Olathe, Kan.; Julie Lenahan Cogley, C’78, Overland Park, Kan.; and Joan Lenahan Porter, C’78, Olathe, Kan.

Nancy C. King, C’65, Kansas City, Mo., died on Sept. 19, 2021.

Sister Mark Friday, C’65, Leavenworth, Kan., died on Nov. 27, 2021. She was a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth for 69 years.

Sister Rita Smith, C’67, Leavenworth, Kan., died on May 15, 2022.

Margaret Flythe-White, C’69, Saint Louis, Mo., died on Oct. 31, 2021. She was the sister of Angela Flythe Alexander, C’68, also of Saint Louis.

Sister Mary Eleanor Schram, C’71, Leavenworth, Kan., died on Nov. 27, 2021. She was a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth for 76 years.

Brenda Stremel, C’71, Leawood, Kan., died on Nov. 6, 2021. She was the sister of Terry Stremel, C’68, Leawood, Kan.

Dr. Muriel Rada, C’72, Omaha, Neb., died on Dec. 22, 2021.

Marcella “Marci” Leon Clay, C’73, Kansas City, Mo., died on Aug. 1, 2021.

Beverly DeWilde Bracy, C’74, died on May 13, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Beverly was the mother of Nancy Bracy, C’98.

Sharon L. Sandercox, C’84, Leavenworth, Kan., died on July 26, 2022.

Susan Mabel Brungardt, C’86, Leavenworth, Kan., died on July 23, 2021.

Cynthia Stockdale Knight, C’93, Baldwin City, Kan., died on Sept. 5, 2021.

Jacob “Jake” Hudson, U’10, Great Falls, Mont., died on July 12, 2019.

James R. Hamil, Overland Park, Kan., died on Jan. 15, 2021. J.R. was commissioned by the Saint Mary Scholarship Friends Board in 1994 to paint the iconic watercolor landscape of the Saint Mary campus.

Daisy Sanchez Coxon, C’63, Denton, Texas, lost her husband, Chuck, on Sept. 17, 2021.

Sister Clara Scherr, C’68, Billings, Mont., lost her sister, Isabel Heinz, on Dec. 4, 2021.

Sister Mary Rosaleen Driscoll, C’69, Topeka, Kan., lost her sister, Lauretta Hays, on Nov. 29, 2021. Lauretta was also the aunt of Sister Maureen Kehoe, C’71, Topeka, Kan.

Jeannie Harrington Downs, C’70, Helena, Mont., lost her husband, Tom, on Oct. 1, 2021.

Sharon Smith Armstrong, C’71, Port Saint Lucie, Fla., lost her husband, Merril “Gus”, on Oct. 22, 2021.
Deanna Nie Hanson, C’72, Andover, Kan., lost her husband, George, on Sept. 25, 2021.

Linell Wenzel Grundman, C’74, Washington, D.C., lost her sister, Denise Marie Wenzel Dietrich, on June 26, 2022.

Sister Marie Loretta Modrcin, C’77, lost her sister, Therese Steele, on May 15, 2022.

Nancy Bracy, C’98, lost her father, Robert Bracy, on Jan. 19, 2021, after a two-year battle with cancer, and she lost her mother, Beverly DeWilde Bracy, C’74, on May 13, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

Betty Kay Hitz Perkins, C’98, lost her husband, Thomas Eugene Perkins, on May 12, 2022.


We are always saddened to hear about the passing of Saint Mary alumni and friends. Several families have asked about making memorial contributions to Saint Mary.
